Balancing work, family, and personal life

A modern workplace culture is characterized by its ability to accommodate the diverse life circumstances of its employees. Promoting a healthy work-life balance is therefore a top priority for us.

Balancing work and personal responsibilities is a central component of a modern and responsible work culture. Throughout their lives, people go through different life stages—such as starting a family, caring for children, caring for relatives, or pursuing professional development. A work environment that takes these different life realities into account enables employees to better balance professional demands and personal responsibilities.

Good conditions for work-life balance have a direct positive impact on employees. They provide greater predictability in daily life, reduce stress, and offer greater flexibility. Employees benefit from a better balance between work and private life as well as from a work environment that respects individual life situations. This enhances satisfaction, motivation, and the opportunity for long-term professional commitment and development.

Against this backdrop, we pursue the principle of a life-stage-conscious HR policy. This takes into account that needs and conditions change over the course of a professional career. The goal is to offer employees in different life situations suitable options for shaping their work—such as through flexible working hours, opportunities for remote work, or family-friendly structures in daily work life.

A life-stage-conscious HR policy is aimed at all employees and recognizes the diversity of individual life paths. It creates room for flexibility, strengthens reliability in daily work life, and contributes to a work culture characterized by appreciation, trust, and sustainable collaboration.
To institutionalize a life-stage-conscious HR policy, the Foundation conducted the “berufundfamilie” audit for the first time in 2023. It received the certificate in mid-December 2023.

With the help of this management tool, binding measures specifically tailored to the SPK are developed every three years with the participation of employees from all departments and with external expert guidance. By implementing these measures, the Foundation’s human resources policy is designed to be more family- and life-stage-conscious in the long term.
