Executive Board
The Executive Board manages the Foundation as a collegial body. It develops the Foundation's overall strategy and makes decisions on matters affecting all of its institutions.
Responsibilities
The Executive Board manages the Foundation. It is responsible for ensuring that the statutory tasks are fulfilled. Within the guidelines set by the Foundation Council, it develops the overall strategy of the Foundation and decides on cross-institutional matters. For example, it draws up the budget, implements the decisions of the Foundation Council, issues the Foundation's rules of procedure, decides on matters of principle and issues rules of use and fee regulations.
The President leads the work of the Executive Board as chairperson with policy-making authority.
Composition
The Executive Board consists of up to seven members. The composition of the Executive Board, with representatives from museums, libraries, institutes and the administration, reflects the diversity of the SPK's institutions.

The President is a member of the Executive Board and its chairperson for the duration of her term of office. The Vice-President heads the Central Service Unit and is also a member of the Executive Board for the duration of his term of office. The Director General of the Berlin State Library is also appointed to the Executive Board for the duration of his term of office. The other members of the Executive Board are appointed for a term of four years.
The Foundation Council appointed the SPK Executive Board for the first time on 1 December 2025.
Marion Ackermann
Marion Ackermann is the chair of the board of directors and has policy-making authority. In addition to the overall strategic direction of the foundation, she is particularly responsible for networking with the foundation's international partners. More infomation
Klaus Biesenbach
Klaus Biesenbach is Director of the Neue Nationalgalerie. As a member of the Executive Board, his responsibilities include strategic issues such as how to organise cross-institutional cooperation and networking between museums, libraries, archives and institutes within the foundation. Achim Bonte
Achim Bonte is Director General of the Berlin State Library. As a member of the Executive Board, he is primarily concerned with strategic developments in the area of leadership and team culture.
Gero Dimter
Gero Dimter is the permanent representative of the president. He heads the Central Services Unit, which provides administrative services for all museums, libraries, archives and institutes of the SPK. On the board, Gero Dimter is responsible for strategic issues relating to social participation, voluntary work and sustainability, among other things. More information
Barbara Göbel
Barbara Göbel is Director of the Ibero-American Institute. On the Executive Board, she is responsible for the diverse relationships with specialist communities and the overall strategic direction of the Foundation in the field of research. More information
Patricia Rahemipour
Patricia Rahemipour is Director of the Institute for Museum Research. On the Executive Board, she is primarily involved in strategic matters relating to the diverse methods and perspectives of audience appeal. More information
Matthias Wemhoff
Matthias Wemhoff is Director of the Museum of Prehistory and Early History. On the Executive Board, he is particularly responsible for strategic relations with the federal states and activates federal potential. More information
Executive Committee
An executive committee supports the members of the board in achieving their goals, particularly with regard to the foundation's overall strategy. It supports the board in cross-foundation tasks.
