President
The President represents the Foundation externally. She is the chair of the Executive Board and determines its priorities. She is the superior of all Foundation employees and is responsible for all ongoing matters at the SPK. The President is based at Villa von der Heydt.

Since June 2025, Prof. Dr. Marion Ackermann has served as President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. Along with the Foundation Council and the Executive Board, the President is one of the foundation’s three governing bodies. In this role, she represents the foundation to the outside world, chairs the Executive Board, and determines its strategic priorities. At the same time, she is the supervisor of all Foundation employees and is responsible for all day-to-day affairs of the SPK. The President’s office is located at Villa von der Heydt.
Career
Marion Ackermann studied art history, German language and literature, and history in Göttingen, Kassel, Vienna, and Munich. In 1995, she earned her doctorate from the University of Göttingen with a dissertation on Wassily Kandinsky’s autobiographical and theoretical texts.
In 2003, she took over as director of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart; at 38 years old, she was the youngest director of a major museum in Germany at the time. Starting in 2009, she headed the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf, one of Germany’s most important art museums. From 2016 to 2025, she served as Director General of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, a network of 15 museums and four institutes that welcomes over two million visitors annually.

Marion Ackermann is the editor of the foundation’s publications, including the SPK Magazine, the Annual Report (formerly the Yearbook), and individual publications on topics relevant to the foundation.
