Tasks of National Interest
The Foundation often plays a central role in cultural tasks of national interest. They include, for example, preserving written heritage and the digitization of cultural heritage.
The federal government can entrust the implementation of cultural tasks that are important to the entire nation to individual institutions. This is done primarily when an institution has particular specialist and staff competences and extensive experience in the field of such tasks.
The Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz has taken over tasks of national interest in various thematic areas including research and documentation of museums as such and best management practices. Because of its structure as a cross-disciplinary cultural institution, the Foundation has extensive knowledge about the preservation of cultural assets and digitization. From 2008 to 2014 the Arbeitsstelle für Provenienzforschung (Bureau for Provenance Research / AfP) was part of the Foundation.
