Student Assistants and Research Assistants

As a scientific institution, the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation supports emerging scholars and offers students, graduates, and doctoral candidates the opportunity to contribute to various research areas.

As a student or research assistant, you can apply your theoretical knowledge in a real-world work environment while contributing to the promotion and preservation of our cultural treasures. You will take on diverse and responsible tasks covering both administrative and specialized areas and gain valuable insights into the day-to-day operations of a cultural institution.

In which areas will you be working?

As a research assistant or student assistant at the Foundation, you can expect a variety of exciting tasks; depending on the job posting, these may include:

  • Support for research projects: You will assist with conducting research, analyzing data, and preparing academic publications and reports. This may also include participation in interdisciplinary research projects in the fields of art history, library science, or cultural management.
  • Assistance with exhibitions and events: You will support the respective institution in planning, organizing, and executing exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events. In doing so, you can gain insights into the practical aspects of exhibition design, curation, and public relations.
  • Administrative tasks: You assist with database management, maintaining archives, and communicating with internal and external partners. In library departments, this may also include cataloging and organizing collections.
  • Project work: You actively participate in various projects and contribute to their successful implementation and evaluation. This may involve supporting cultural projects, exhibition development, or research initiatives.
  • Support in day-to-day operations: You assist with the daily work of the departments, create presentations and meeting minutes, prepare for meetings, and coordinate organizational tasks. This may also include work on the digital transformation of collections or the maintenance of museum and library systems.
     

What are the requirements for a position as a student or research assistant?

To be eligible for a position as a research assistant or student assistant, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Student assistant: You are enrolled at a German university in a field relevant to the position.
  • Research assistant: You have completed your studies in a field relevant to the respective position or are working on your doctoral degree.
     

Additionally:

  • you have an interest in culture and research
  • you demonstrate initiative and the ability to work in a team
  • as well as organizational skills and reliability
     

What is the compensation for student or research assistants?

For student assistants, the pay is based on the applicable hourly rate for pay grade 3 of the TVöD Bund. Research assistants receive pay based on the applicable hourly rate for pay grade 9b of the TVöD Bund.

What are the working hours for student or research assistants?

Both student and research assistants are eligible for a maximum weekly working time of 19 hours.
