Internships
In parallel with secondary school, training, or university studies, you can get to know the Foundation’s institutions during an internship. The obligatory internship in conservation can also be completed at the Foundation.
In which departments will the internship take place?
During your internship, you will have the opportunity to work in various departments and divisions of the SPK. These include the Central Service Unit, the State Museums of Berlin, the Berlin State Library, and the Ibero-American Institute. Depending on the institution, your tasks may include:
- Collection and inventory management: You will assist with the maintenance, cataloging, and documentation of objects and media.
- Exhibition and event organization: You will help plan, execute, and oversee exhibitions and events.
- In the area of educational and public programs: You will assist with guided tours, workshops, and educational offerings.
- In the area of communication and public relations: You will assist with the creation of marketing materials and the management of social media channels.
- In the area of administration and project management: You will assist with the planning, organization, and administration of projects and budgets.
- In the area of research: You will support scientific projects through literature research, data analysis, and participation in the preparation of research reports and scientific publications.
- In the area of restoration: During a pre-internship in the field of restoration/conservation, you will assist with the documentation and care of objects, support restoration work, material analysis, as well as preventive conservation and research.
How long does the internship last?
The duration of the internship depends on the respective training and examination regulations of your school or university.
What is the remuneration for the internship?
Mandatory internships for students and high school students are unpaid; pre-internships for prospective restoration students are compensated with a monthly stipend of 450 EUR.
How do I apply for an internship?
If you are interested in a mandatory internship with us as part of your high school or college education, we look forward to receiving your application. Please send your documents directly to the museum’s director or the head of the institution or department where you would like to complete your internship. Your application should include the following documents:
- Cover letter
- Resume
For high school students:
- Copy of student ID
- School internship agreement
For college students:
- current proof of enrollment
- Proof that the internship is a mandatory internship, e.g., in the form of an excerpt from the study or internship regulations or a certificate from the internship coordinator at the respective university
