Transfer of Expert Knowledge
The Foundation and its institutions perform a supporting function for the scientific and cultural worlds. They share the results of their research activity and their expertise in numerous tasks with the world of experts.
Infrastructure and Impetus for Research
In order to convey the materials preserved in its institutions to specialists, it is indispensable to make them accessible and to provide complex infrastructure for scholars and researchers. Research at the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) also gives important impetus to the international scientific and cultural world.
Expert Competence in Demand
All the Foundation’s institutions cultivate exchange with experts at cultural and scientific institutions in Germany and abroad. Their professional competence flows into numerous networks and projects. The Foundation’s expertise is in demand especially with multidisciplinary tasks such as preserving collections or digitization.
The Foundation’s employees share their expert knowledge and the results of their research in publications and at conferences and in workshops. The specialized knowledge at the Foundation also feeds into the conception and development of new courses of study, such as the Berliner Antike-Kolleg (Berlin College of Ancient Studies), and continuing education programs.
The Foundation’s institutions train librarians and archives as well as museum assistants and restorers. They also offer university graduates opportunities to obtain further scholarly qualifications.
International Exchange Programs
In addition, the Foundation’s institutions share their competence through exchange programs. The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (National Museums in Berlin), for example, have started such programs with museums in the United States, China, and India. The cooperation projects of the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin (Berlin State Library) with various national libraries also include exchange of expertise. The employees of the libraries involved exchange information on various professional issues and practical working processes.
The Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut (Ibero-American Institute) offers workshops for other libraries. They convey general rules of practice for digitization of holdings in specialized libraries.
