From 16 April 2024: New opening hours at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Musikinstrumenten-Museum - late openings in the summer months

Parzinger: We want to react more flexibly to visitor flows in future
The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation will change the opening hours of the National Museums in Berlin and the Musical Instrument Museum of the State Institute for Music Research from 16 April 2024.
SPK President Hermann Parzinger said: "Unfortunately, the tight budget situation is forcing us to drastically reduce expenditure. For this reason, some museums will close on Tuesdays in addition to Mondays and will have shorter opening hours. At the same time, we want to react much more flexibly to visitor flows in future and also extend opening hours for successful exhibitions. This will certainly be the case this year with the Caspar David Friedrich exhibition in the Alte Nationalgalerie. In addition, we are placing a clear focus on education and will also be offering guided tours for school classes on the new closing days."
The regular opening hours for the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Gemäldegalerie, Hamburger Bahnhof - Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, the Museum für Fotografie and the Pergamonmuseumwill remain unchanged. Panorama and the Neue Nationalgalerie. The long Thursday evenings until 8pm in the Neue Nationalgalerie, the Hamburger Bahnhof - Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart and the Museum für Fotografie will also remain open. The Kunstbibliothek library and the study rooms of the Kupferstichkabinett, Münzkabinett and Kunstbibliothek are also unaffected by the changed opening hours. The Neues Museum and James-Simon-Galerie will remain open from Tuesday to Sunday, but only until 6 p.m. on Thursdays.
The Alte Museum, Bode-Museum, Friedrichswerdersche Kirche, Kunstbibliothek (exhibition hall), Kupferstichkabinett (exhibition hall), Kunstgewerbemuseum, Museum Europäischer Kulturen MEK, Sammlung Scharf-Gerstenberg and Schloss Köpenickwill change their opening hours from 16 April 2024. They will remain closed on Mondays and Tuesdays from 16 April 2024 and some of them will reduce their opening hoursat times of day that were previously less frequented. Registered school classes will continue to be welcomed at the Altes Museum and the Bode Museum on Tuesdays.
TheAltes Museum, Bode-Museum and Friedrichswerdersche Kirche will open Wednesday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm (previously: 6 pm), Saturday and Sunday as before from 10 am to 6 pm. These opening hours also apply to the exhibitions at the Art Libraryat the Kulturforum.
The Museum of Prints and Drawings and the Museum of Decorative Arts will be open Wednesday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm (previously: 6 pm), and on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm as before. The same opening hours apply to the Museum of European Cultures.
The Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection in Charlottenburg is open Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 6pm.
Opening hours will be extended for some museums in the summer:
From 5 May to 4 August, the Alte Nationalgalerie will additionally open until 8pm from Thursday to Saturday. For one month, between 4 July and 4 August, it will also open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until 8pm. This is to accommodate the expected visitor interest in the special exhibition "Caspar David Friedrich: Infinite Landscapes" (19 April - 4 August 2024). The same opening hours, including late opening from Tuesday to Saturday, will also apply to the Neues Museum and the James-Simon-Galerie- also from 4 July, but until 1 September.
Schloss Köpenick also opens its doors on Wednesdays from April to September and welcomes guests from Wednesday to Friday from 11 am to 5 pm and at weekends from 11 am to 6 pm. From October to March, the museum remains open from Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 5pm .
The Musical Instrument Museum of the State Institute for Music Research at the Kulturforum will be open as follows from 16 April to 22 July : Tuesday 9am to 1pm (previously: 5pm), Wednesday and Friday 9am to 5pm, Thursday 9am to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 5pm. From 23 July to 30 August, the house will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 pm to 5 pm, Thursday from 1 pm to 8 pm and at weekends from 10 am to 5 pm.

From 19 April to 4 May 2024, the Alte Nationalgalerie will open from Friday to Saturday until 8 pm, and from 5 May to 3 July 2024 on Thursdays to Saturdays from 9 am to 8 pm.
