Marion Ackermann signs Memorandum of Understanding with Fondation Nationale des Musées in Rabat - collaboration planned for research, capacity building and exhibitions

The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation intends to work more closely with Moroccan museums in the future. During a visit to Rabat today, SPK President Marion Ackermann signed a cooperation agreement with the Fondation Nationale des Musées of Morocco (FNM). Joint research and exhibition projects as well as an exchange on cultural education are planned.

Mehdi Qotbi, who signed the agreement on the Moroccan side as President of the FNM, explained: "We are planning to work together in the areas of museums, cultural heritage, science and culture. The joint work will focus on cooperation on research into collections of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, capacity building and cooperation in the field of education, as well as future joint exhibitions and event projects."

SPK President Marion Ackermann said: "It is impressive to see what the FNM has already achieved since it was founded in 2011 and I am very much looking forward to working together. We have already learnt a lot from our Moroccan partners in the joint development of mediation opportunities for historical wax cylinder recordings of Moroccan prisoners of war, which are in the phonogram archive of the Ethnological Museum. I am very grateful to the Goethe-Institut for their comprehensive support. I would like to expand such collaborations even further in the coming years."

The Fondation Nationale des Musées (FNM) was founded in 2011 to manage and develop Morocco's museums on behalf of the Moroccan state. The FNM currently has 21 museums open to the public across the country, including the Musée Al Batha des Arts de l'Islam in Fès, the Dar Jamaï (Musée National de la Musique) in Meknès, the Musée Mohammed VI d'art moderne contemporaine in Rabat, the National Museum of Weaving and Carpets in Marrakech and the Kasbah Museum of Mediterranean Cultures in Tangier. Currently still under construction is the Musée du Continent, which is intended to act as a hub for research, restoration and conservation of art from the African continent far beyond Rabat.
