Federal budget strengthens SPK

Press release from 09/05/2025

Ackermann: Federal Government significantly strengthens the SPK - Thanks to Minister of State for Culture Weimer and the Bundestag Budget Committee

The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation will be significantly strengthened in the 2025 federal budget. SPK President Marion Ackermann thanked Minister of State for Culture Wolfram Weimer and his organisation: "This is a very strong signal for the future viability of the SPK. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Minister of State Weimer and his office for their impressive plea in favour of our foundation. I would also like to thank the members of the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag for their commitment and their decision! This gives our reform process an enormous boost. Nevertheless, the costs for personnel, security and building management have risen dramatically. The modernisation of the SPK into a contemporary, agile and efficient cultural enterprise is the most important goal for us. We know what we still have to do to become even more attractive for our guests. At the same time, we will continue to intensify our efforts to attract third-party funding. It is my firm goal that the SPK should not only shine in Berlin, but should also be a symbol of the federal structure of Germany as a cultural centre. Once again, I would like to thank the BKM for supporting the modernisation of Germany's largest cultural institution."
