The Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition 2022 ended yesterday evening with a spectacular finale. This year, the competition was held in the subjects of piano and composition. The Konzerthausorchester Berlin performed under the direction of Leslie Suganandarajah. This year's prizewinners are

First Prize (Mendelssohn Prize, 4,000 EUR)
Jeonghwan Kim (Hanns Eisler School of Music)
Second Prize (Prize of the Federal President, 2.500 EUR)
Jiyoung Kim (Hochschule für Musik und Theater München)
Third Prize (Prize of the Elsa-Wera-Arnold Foundation,
shared at 750 EUR each)

Jinhyung Park (Hochschule Für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover) and

Special Prize Interpretation Commissioned Work

The competition is organised by the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, the Rectors' Conference of German Music Universities and the Berlin University of the Arts. The artistic director is Prof Dr Sebastian Nordmann, director of the Konzerthaus Berlin. Patron of the competition is Andris Nelsons, Gewandhauskapellmeister of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.
