Outdoor Spaces on the Museumsinsel

The Master Plan provides for the outdoor spaces on the Museumsinsel to be connected to each other and attractively landscaped. The first stages of the design concept have already been implemented.

The Museumsinsel Will Be Accessed and Experienced as an Ensemble

The Museuminsel (Museum Island) Master Plan also addresses the design of the outdoor areas on the Museumsinsel. When construction is complete these areas will be linked to one another. Thus they will be an invitation to explore the Museumsinsel and offer visitors new sightlines on the historical ensemble.

Landscape Architecture to Accompany the Restoration Measures

The Levin Monsigny Gesellschaft von Landschaftsarchitekten mbH won the Zwischenräume: Gestaltung des öffentlichen Raumes auf der Museumsinsel (Interstices: Designing the Public Spaces on the Museum Island) competition in 2001. The lighting design has been undertaken by Conceptlicht GmbH. The proposal for the design of the outdoor spaces is being implemented in stages along with the restoration of the individual buildings. For example, the Kolonnadenhof (Colonnade Courtyard) in front of the Alte Nationalgalerie and the Neues Museum was restored and opened already in 2010.
