Europeana

The Europeana portal is the central platform for the digitized and digital cultural heritage of Europe. It brings together more than 30 million digitized objects from around fifteen hundred cultural and scientific institutions.

The Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation), like many other cultural institutions, provides metadata about its digitized holdings to the Europeana portal. The vice director of the Institut für Museumsforschung (Institute for Museum Research) of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (National Museums in Berlin) also represents the interests of European museums in developing the portal. The Foundation’s institutions are involved in several projects connected to Europeana.

Europeana Collections, 1914–1918

In 2014, Europeana launched its portal regarding the First World War. For this digital collection of material on the historical conflict, the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin (Berlin State Library) coordinated Europeana Collections, 1914–1918, a digitization project supported by the European Union. In this project, ten national libraries from eight countries made available around 400,000 digitized objects from the period of the First World War.

Europeana Fashion

The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin are participating with the Institut für Museumsforschung, the Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts), and the Kunstbibliothek (Art Library) in the project Europeana Fashion. It is aggregating digitized materials on the subject of fashion and publishing them in its own fashion portal and in Europeana.
