The Foundation’s Digitization Strategy - Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz

As a multidisciplinary institution, the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz has worked out a comprehensive digitization strategy for its museums, libraries, and archives. It defines tasks and priorities for the production of digital content.

The Priorities for the Content to Be Digitized

The Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) has extensive collections. In the coming years, its digitization projects will focus on holdings that are outstanding, unique, of particular interest to scholars, or nationally or internationally significant for other reasons. Using these parameters, each institution defines which of its holdings should have priority for digitization. Their decisions take into account the fact they are dealing with many different types of objects and materials.

Standards for the Exchange of Digitized Materials

In all of the Foundation’s digitization projects, the relevant standards for libraries, museums, and archives are observed. This permits unproblematic exchange of digitized materials and data within the Foundation. It also simplifies entering them into Internet portals. For the digitization of written materials, the Foundation follows the “Practical Guidelines on Digitisation” of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation, DFG).

Private and Scholarly Uses of Digital Content Are Free

As a public institution for culture and research, the Foundation has decided that all its digital holdings should be made available at no cost for noncommercial use.
