Annual press conference 2017
Press release from 02/08/2017
For the first time outside the Villa von der Heydt: at the 2017 annual press conference at the Altes Museum, the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation presented its plans for the coming year. SPK President and the directors of the five institutions gave an outlook and took stock
The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and the National Museums in Berlin are opening the conceptual Humboldt Forum this year. On the Museum Island and at the Kulturforum, the special exhibition series "New Neighbours", among other things, will demonstrate what is meant by viewing the world as a whole.
In general, the President gave a positive assessment of the past year: the budget situation has improved thanks to the federal government, the interim building for the Pergamon Museum, the Museum of the 20th Century and the James Simon Gallery are on the right track and, on top of that, the donation of Haus Bastian by Heiner Bastian and his family was a coup in terms of mediation. This also applies to the Lab Bode in the Bode Museum, which has received 5.6 million in funding from the German Federal Cultural Foundation and is set to become a national laboratory for educational work.
The SPK will also make headlines across Germany with the "museum4punkt0" project, which involves working with five museums to develop digital strategies for the museum of the future. 2017 is also a year of anniversaries: the 250th birthday of Wilhelm von Humboldt, 100 years of the State Institute for Music Research - and 60 years of the SPK.
Speaking at the annual press conference were:
- Hermann Parzinger, President of the SPK
- Michael Eissenhauer, Director General of the National Museums in Berlin
- Barbara Schneider-Kempf, Director General of the Berlin State Library
- Jürgen Kloosterhuis, Director of the Secret State Archives PK
- Barbara Göbel, Director of the Ibero-American Institute
- Thomas Ertelt, Director of the State Institute for Music Research
