Rehearsal for the Voyage to the Humboldt Forum

Elaborately packaged and lifted by crane out through the window – with skillful handling and under the watchful eye of the scientists, a South Seas boat travels from the Martin-Gropius-Bau back to the Ethnologisches Museum (Ethnological Museum) in Dahlem.

For three months, numerous objects from the important South Sea collection of the Ethnologisches Museum entranced visitors to Dance of the Ancestors. Art from Sepik of Papua New Guinea. One of the highlights of the exhibition in the Martin-Gropius-Bau was a large outrigger canoe, which has now returned to the Ethnologisches Museum in Dahlem, southwest Berlin. The transportation of this boat was a trial run: Soon all the South Sea boats will set out on a voyage across Berlin to the Humboldt Forum.

Just how these popular exhibits will make their challenging journey to the Humboldt Forum, and how they will be displayed once there, are revealed in the SPK’s current magazine about the Humboldt Forum.
