10 MUSEUMS X 10 CONCERTS - Chamber Concerts of the DSO with the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation

Press release from 09/12/2024

Start of the new series on Fri, 13 Sept. at the Museum of European Cultures

Unique concerts by selected ensembles of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (DSO) in unique venues of the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (SPK) - that's what 10 MUSEEN X 10 KONZERTE offers. Since 2010, the DSO and the SPK have been organising the 'Notturno' series of three nightly chamber concerts per season. The collaboration will now be extended to ten dates for the first time in the 2024/2025 season. On Friday 13 September at 9 pm, a cello duo from the DSO will kick off the series at the Museum of European Cultures. True to the 'Notturno' concept, there will be an opportunity to view the collection one hour before the concert begins.

With 10 MUSEAS X 10 CONCERTS, the DSO's chamber music series is getting an upgrade: like the popular 'Notturno' format, all ten dates will take place in cooperation with the SPK and will be combined with exciting insights into the collections and museums.

Hermann Parzinger, President of the SPK, explains: "The format has proven to be a hit with the public, and the concerts are regularly sold out far in advance. But we still have many places where chamber music can be performed excellently, and I am very pleased that the DSO has therefore extended the series with us to 10 concerts per season."

DSO Director Thomas Schmidt-Ott: "For 15 years now, the co-operation concerts with the SPK have been a highlight in the DSO calendar and in Berlin's cultural life in general. It's great to be able to offer our audience 10 evenings at 10 fascinating places of art and knowledge. We are very grateful to the SPK for expanding the series."

True to the 'Notturno' concept, the concert venues will be introduced to the audience in guided tours and talks with experts and curators from 8 pm, before the one-hour concerts at 9 pm give the rooms, collections and exhibits completely new facets.

The first concert in the series will take place on Friday, 13 September at the Museum of European Cultures. There, Byol Kang and Mischa Meyer, the DSO's concertmaster and first solo cellist, will dedicate themselves to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach in an intimate programme and complement it with solo works and duos by Martinů, Ravel, Saariaho and Xenakis.

On Friday, 11 October, the highlight will be a romantic programme dedicated to Caspar David Friedrich in the James-Simon-Galerie - with bestselling author Florian Illies as speaker.
