Today, the SPK officially became a partner of the Sustainability Action Network in Culture and the Media (ANKM). The network is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and serves as a central, interdisciplinary point of contact for the environmentally friendly operation of cultural and the media institutions. Earlier in the week, the SPK signed the Sustainability Declaration for the Cultural Field, which was drawn up by the Culture4Climate initiative. By signing the declaration, institutions, entities and individuals  in the cultural sector pledge to orient their activities towards climate and sustainability goals.

Hermann Parzinger, President of the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation), commented: “By joining the Action Network and signing the Sustainability Declaration, we have taken a further step toward making sustainability a central principle of the things we do. As a cultural and research institution, and as a collecting institution, we preserve the past for the future. So it cannot be a matter of indifference to us what that future looks like. While striving to preserve the cultural heritage entrusted to us as well as is possible, we must seek to do so in ways that conserve resources – this is the only way in which we can responsibly fulfil our core duties.”
