Day in the green at the Berlin Kulturforum
Press release from 09/05/2022
Thousands of "Sunday excursionists" attended concerts, performances, readings, guided tours and church services yesterday and dined at the summer table in Sigismundstraße. All neighbouring residents had opened their gardens and green spaces to visitors as part of the cultural summer festival.
The concerts by the Deep Gold Band, the Vocal Heroes and the Karajan Academy, among others, as well as readings, guided tours and performances attracted thousands of visitors to the Kulturforum from 12 noon yesterday. More than 7,000 of them visited the museums, which were open to the public free of charge, and over 1,000 visited St Matthew's Church. All the museums as well as the library, church and Philharmonie offered an extra garden programme. At the summer table set for over 200 people in Sigismundstraße, which was closed to traffic, there was lively conversation over free drinks, currywurst and apple pie, followed by a free concert with Till Brönner in the Neue Nationalgalerie.
Pastor Hannes Langbein, Director of the St Matthew Foundation: "The "Day in the Green" was a blessing for the Kulturforum: The interaction of all the houses has turned the Kulturforum into a real forum: Music, literature, art, science and religion, all together! I have rarely seen the Kulturforum so lively and enjoyable. A pleasure for all the senses!"
Hermann Parzinger, President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation: "A garden day with a fantastic response! I am delighted that Claudia Roth and Cem Özdemir were also there and joined us at the banqueting table in Sigismundstraße. This was certainly not the last joint event organised by the residents, as the lively interest of the guests showed: With the right programme, the Kulturforum is an extremely lively, urban place."
