How do we build the future?" Annual report 2021 describes the internal change at SPK
Press release from 06/30/2022
The 2021 Annual Report of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation has just been published. SPK President Hermann Parzinger writes in the editorial that the past twelve months have been characterised above all by "a longing for normality". Despite the pandemic-related impositions, many visitors once again came to the exhibitions of the National Museums in Berlin and the Museum of Musical Instruments, to the reading rooms of the Berlin State Library, the Secret State Archives of Prussian Cultural Heritage, the Ibero-American Institute and the State Institute for Music Research: "Our public has remained loyal to us, which has made us extremely happy."
2021 was also a year of new beginnings at the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin and the Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung: Achim Bonte as the new Director General and Rebecca Wolf as the new Director brought a breath of fresh air to both institutions. This also applies to the new directors of the Neue Nationalgalerie, the Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum der Gegenwart - Berlin and the Gemäldegalerie, who were appointed last year.
The 2021 annual report focuses on the renewal process within the SPK. Even though the path to reform is still a long one, a lot has happened: mobile working is playing an increasingly important role, we have addressed sustainability and diversity as topics, and we have also tackled issues relating to the future of museums, libraries, archives and institutes. The curators Claudia Banz (Kunstgewerbemuseum), NinaSchallenberg (Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum der Gegenwart - Berlin) and Andrea Scholz (Ethnologisches Museum) report on all of this. But it is also about the future of the museum itself, current discourses and the opportunities for networking within the collection network.
The SPK Annual Report was once again designed by Andreas Dimmler, with editorial responsibility in the hands of Gesine Bahr and the SPK's Media, Communication and Events department.
