museum4punkt0: The Germany-wide joint project on digital mediation continues in 2022 / The hybrid conference and exhibition will provide insights into current projects
Press release from 10/29/2021
museum4punkt0, the Germany-wide network for digital education led by the SPK, is continuing its projects in 2022. Since 2017, teams from a wide range of institutions have been developing and testing closely networked digital education programmes. A hybrid conference with a showcase on 1 and 2 November 2021 will provide insights.
The teams of the participating partners, which have grown from 7 to 18 sub-projects, are working on developing new types of educational programmes - from conception to testing and subsequent use. For example, discovery tools for outdoor spaces, participative online platforms and co-creation offerings as well as different formats of cultural mediation using digital storytelling and augmented reality are being created. The project participants work closely together in a network and exchange ideas on central topics of digital mediation. In public events, online publications and regular insights into the work process, they share the knowledge bundled in the network with other institutions.
Prof Dr Hermann Parzinger, President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, commented on the extension of the network project in 2022 by the Minister of State for Culture and the Media: "I am delighted that the network will be able to continue its work. By making its findings and project results available, museum4punkt0 supports institutions throughout Germany in the digital transformation of culture. As an institution funded by the federal and state governments, the SPK has a special national responsibility here, which is why the benefits for other institutions have been a central point from the outset."
Prototypes of the first projects have already been utilised and are available as museum services: For example, the application developed in the Humboldt Forum Foundation sub-project "Ping! The Museum App" developed in the Humboldt Forum Foundation's sub-project is being used and further developed by the project partners Badisches Landesmuseum and the Senckenberg Museum für Naturkunde Görlitz, among others. The application invites users to chat with an object in the exhibition and thus combines knowledge transfer with a personalised museum experience.
The new projects have greatly expanded museum4punkt0's portfolio under the changed conditions of the pandemic. These include a multimedia app from the Deutsche Kinemathek that invites visitors to playfully explore Berlin film locations in the city: Augmented reality features make film sets visible, audio provides insights into film production and a filter function transforms your smartphone into a historical film camera. The Virtual Museum of the Historisches Museum Saar is aimed specifically at children and young people and offers extraordinary virtual tours: An online learning platform combined with a video conferencing tool includes 3D modelling of individual exhibits, short films and live links to other locations. The Kalkriese Museum Park is developing a discovery tool that turns users into researchers themselves: they will be able to use it to virtually dig, interpret and experience history on the 24-hectare site, where a large number of Roman artefacts point to the Varus Battle over 2000 years ago.
The latest insights into the project work are now being provided by a showcase at the two-day conference at the Humboldt Forum. The project participants will present their current developments and invite visitors to try them out. After a presentation of all sub-projects with current short films on the first day of the conference, experts from the network and beyond will invite you to discuss developments in the digital transformation of culture in keynote speeches, panel discussions and other exchange formats.
