Art in Berlin vaccination centres

Press release from 06/04/2021

Since the beginning of June, large posters of works of art from the National Museums in Berlin - Prussian Cultural Heritage have been hanging in the six Berlin vaccination centres. The motifs originate from the campaign to open up the museums and were specially adapted for the centres. Dilek Kalayci, Hermann Parzinger and Michael Eissenhauer jointly presented the campaign today at an on-site visit to the Tegel vaccination centre.

- Closing date: 4 June 2021, 16:00 -

Hermann Parzinger, President of the SPK, said: "Vaccination centres are places of hope and confidence, places to look forward to the end of the pandemic. The SPK would like to reinforce this idea with the art in the vaccination centres."

Health Senator Dilek Kalayci: "I am delighted that we are able to open the art in vaccination centres to coincide with today's day of easing restrictions in Berlin: The motifs symbolise the opening of museums in Berlin. But the Tegel vaccination centre also stands for openings, because vaccination brings us a good deal closer to everyday life."

Michael Eissenhauer, Director General of the National Museums in Berlin, explained: "Our large posters in the vaccination centres are intended to awaken the desire to look and discover and to make people's stay more pleasant. At the same time, they are an invitation to come to the museums, which are now open again after being closed for around six months, and enjoy life with new impressions."

Mario Czaja, President of the Berlin Regional Association of the German Red Cross, added: "The hope machine continues to run at full speed in our vaccination centres. And that goes beyond vaccination and thus maintaining the health of Berliners. We also urgently need culture again for our mental health and the slow return to a normal life. The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation has developed original posters especially for our vaccination centres, which will help to lift the confident mood of people who have been vaccinated. Many thanks to the foundation for this encouraging initiative."

The motifs of the 2x1 metre posters show works from the Gemäldegalerie, the Pergamonmuseum, the Alte Nationalgalerie and the Neues Museum. With the hashtag #endlichwiederoffen, they refer to the campaign of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, which reopened on 21 May.

Background to the new campaign for the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Musikinstrumenten-Museum

The reopening of numerous museums of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Musikinstrumenten-Museum des Staatlichen Instituts für Musikforschung as part of the easing of restrictions decided by the Senate is accompanied by an advertising campaign. Under the motto "Finally open again for ...", famous motifs from the museums' collections are combined with word creations from the everyday digital world. A total of 8 motifs will be on display in Berlin's city centre and a further 13 will be played out via social media. The campaign, developed by the Vienna-based agency Büro X, was made possible with the support of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media. Some selected motifs were specially reworked for the vaccination centres.
