Change in the chairmanship of the Board of Trustees of Prussian Cultural Heritage - Helen Müller succeeds Thorsten Strauß

Press release from 05/18/2021

Helen Müller, Head of Cultural Affairs and Corporate History at Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA, was elected as the new Chair of the Board of Trustees of Prussian Cultural Heritage on 11 May; her deputy is Stephan Frucht, Head of Cultural and Sponsorship Programmes and Artistic Director of the Siemens Arts Program at Siemens AG.

The historian Helen Müller, who has many years of experience in cultural work and is considered an excellent expert on Berlin's cultural landscape, will succeed Thorsten Strauß, who is leaving the Board of Trustees of Prussian Cultural Heritage after 13 years. However, he will continue to support the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in an honorary advisory capacity. Previously in management positions at Deutsche Bank, Strauß is now Managing Director of Thor Advisors GmbH. Anna Herrhausen, Global Head of Art, Culture & Sports at Deutsche Bank, will take over the mandate for Deutsche Bank AG.

Thorsten Strauß was already a long-standing member of the previous "Museum Island Board of Trustees" and has chaired the Prussian Cultural Heritage Board of Trustees since 2014. "I have always said how fascinated I am by the diversity of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation! The Board of Trustees has worked to make this potential even more tangible for the public. It was important to me that the SPK opened itself up, made offers that were in tune with the times and presented itself in a contemporary way. Now that I am stepping down as Chair, I will remain closely associated with the foundation."

The new Chair Helen Müller, who has also been involved in the Board of Trustees for many years, most recently as Deputy Chair: "I see the Board of Trustees of Prussian Cultural Heritage as an ideal place for dialogue between culture and business. Supporting the SPK in its urgent tasks and projects, strengthening its visibility and in this way also supporting the reform of the SPK is the central concern of the Board of Trustees."

SPK President Hermann Parzinger: "The Board of Trustees is supporting the changes at the SPK - financially, but also with constructive discussion. Thorsten Strauß has always made it clear that we have to be state of the art if we want to remain competitive. I would like to thank him most sincerely for his many years of support and am now looking forward to working with Helen Müller!"
