Journal for the History of Ideas appears with the title "Colonial Goods"
Press release from 02/19/2021
The spring issue of the Zeitschrift für Ideengeschichte will be published on 22 February 2021 with the title "Kolonialwaren".
The magazine is jointly edited by Ulrike Gleixner, Alexandra Kemmerer, Michael Matthiesen and SPK President Hermann Parzinger . The editors have this to say about the announcement: "Almost everything can be found in the great department stores' of colonialism: high culture and mass-produced clothing, gifts and consumer goods, explorers' fortunes and many a piece of booty. The portfolio of colonial goods is as wide-ranging as their provenances. The spring issue of the Zeitschrift für Ideengeschichte (Journal for the History of Ideas) traces the abysmal paths of colonial goods right up to the present day."
The issue brings together contributions by David Armitage, Andreas Fahrmeir, Jürgen Osterhammel, Sundhya Pahuja, Britt Schlünz and many more.
The Zeitschrift für Ideengeschichte has been published by C.H.Beck since February 2007 and is jointly supported by the three major German research libraries and archives in Marbach, Weimar and Wolfenbüttel as well as the Wis-senschaftskolleg zu Berlin, the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz and the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz (Max Planck Institute). While the journal's sources may lie in the archives, its intellectual target is the present. It treads paths of transmission in order to arrive in the present; it poses questions to historical sources that concern us as contemporaries of the 21st century.
Review copies are available, also as an e-book, from Katrin Maria Dähn, Press Department of Verlag C.H.Beck, Tel. +49 89 381 89-405 or +49 172 82 55 621, or via e-mail .
