The restoration work is being done on the northern part of the colonnade, which will be returned to the state that it originally had in the nineteenth century. It was enclosed to create additional rooms in 1911. Until recently, these accommodated the sculpture restoration workshop of the Alte Nationalgalerie. This now has new quarters in the Bode Museum, fully equipped and fit for purpose. The work to uncover and renovate the structure of the colonnades is due for completion by 2022. Then the Museumsinsel (Museum Island) will finally have regained its characteristic appearance.
