New image brochure of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation published
Press release from 01/30/2019
Secrets, conversations and walks through the SPK cosmos - Celebrities such as Bibiana Beglau, Tim Raue and Robin Ticciati guide us through their favourite pieces - Kuratorium Preußischer Kulturbesitz supports the publication designed by BUREAU Mario Lombardo
The new image brochure "Once around the world" takes readers on a journey through a wide variety of times and places. There are stories about the secrets that well-known and unknown objects harbour, as well as a photographic walk from the Museum Island via the Kulturforum and Charlottenburg to Dahlem, which provides insights into the SPK's museums, libraries and archives.
In addition, the Foundation provides information about the work of its museums, libraries, archives and research institutes in an unusual way. In discussions, curators, archivists, academics and librarians report on interdisciplinary, cross-collection working methods in fields such as digitisation, research, mediation, provenance research and international cultural exchange. This gives an impression of what the SPK can achieve as an interdisciplinary cultural global player in the age of networking.
"This brochure shows how diverse the links between the SPK's institutions, collections and holdings are - and what things are only possible by combining these different disciplines," says Foundation President Hermann Parzinger.
The last part of the brochure shows who you can meet in the SPK's museums - here celebrities such as actress Bibiana Beglau, organist Cameron Carpenter, writer Rafael Cardoso and DSO chief conductor Robin Ticciati talk about their favourite pieces, which they return to time and again. In addition to all these "stories from the SPK", there is of course also a classic overview of all five SPK institutions, plus facts, figures and connections.
Finally, on the fold-out back page, which is created by the unusual binding of the brochure, the reader can once again travel in fast motion from the beginnings of mankind to the present day: From the scroll seal from the fourth millennium BC to the contemporary "Conchita sausage on the crescent moon", pieces from all of the Foundation's institutions trace the cultural and socio-political developments and achievements of mankind.
The image brochure designed by BUREAU Mario Lombardo was made possible by the Kuratorium Preußischer Kulturbesitz. "The SPK is the most important cultural player in Germany and we believe that this unrivalled potential needs to be emphasised even more. The digital transformation, mediation and outstanding research shown in the brochure are topics of great social relevance. The SPK can bridge the gap between past and present, theory and practice like no other cultural institution," says Thorsten Strauß, Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
Press copies of the image brochure can be ordered via pressestelle(at)hv.spk-berlin(dot)de.
