Foundation Board decides: Patricia Rahemipour joins the Institute for Museum Research
Press release from 12/19/2018
The Board of Trustees of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, chaired by Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters, made four appointments yesterday: The Vice President of the SPK, the Director of the Museum of the Ancient Near East, the Head of the Usage Department of the State Library and the Head of the Institute for Museum Research.
Patricia Rahemipour, the current Head of the Knowledge Communication Department of the Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin, is to become the new Head of the Institute for Museum Research at the National Museums in Berlin. Her predecessor Bernhard Graf will retire at the end of March 2019. Ms Rahemipour studied prehistory and early history, classical archaeology and philosophy and was awarded her doctorate in prehistory and early history with the scientific-historical topic "Archaeology in the spotlight. The visualisation of prehistory in film 1895-1930". She gained her first museum experience while cataloguing the teaching collection at the Department of Prehistory and Early History at the University of Leipzig. She later worked in various roles, including project manager and curator, for the German Archaeological Institute and the Topoi Cluster of Excellence. After a stint at the Jewish Museum Frankfurt, Ms Rahemipour first became a consultant and then, from 2016, head of the Botanical Museum and the Botanic Garden's Knowledge Communication Department. She wants to significantly increase the visibility of the Institute for Museum Research and see it as an innovative source of inspiration for museums. She would like to rethink the topic of "visitor research" in the direction of future visitor development. In addition, the Institute's role in the development of the Dahlem research campus should be an active one. She herself believes in close cooperation with university research institutions. This must consist of active participation in teaching, but also in the joint thinking of museum locations.
