'Notturno' concert at the Neues Museum on 17 November 2017: The DSO ensemble performs Messiaen's 'Quatuor pour la fin du temps'

A quartet from the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin will kick off the 'Notturno' nightly chamber concerts at the Neues Museum on Museum Island on 17 November. The unusual ensemble, consisting of Olga Polonsky (violin), Stephan Mörth (clarinet), Sara Minemoto (cello) and Jonathan Aner (piano), will present Olivier Messiaen's 'Quatuor pour la fin du temps' to the audience. An official welcome by Dr Olivia Zorn, Deputy Director of the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection of the National Museums in Berlin, will take place at 9 pm. From 9.15 pm, the museum can be explored in short guided tours before the concert begins at 10 pm.
The chamber concert series 'Notturno' starts its new season with a modern classic of the 20th century. Olivier Messiaen's 'Quatour pour la fin du temps', a musical meditation with a biblical background, will be performed at the Neues Museum on Museum Island on 17 November. In his 50-minute chamber music masterpiece, the French master thematised the end of time and the associated hope and expectation of salvation, humanity and eternal life. The quartet will be presented by DSO musicians Olga Polonsky (violin), Stephan Mörth (clarinet) and Sara Minemoto (cello) together with pianist Jonathan Aner.
The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and the DSO are now entering their eighth season with their chamber concert series 'Notturno'. The inspiring combination of exquisite chamber music in dialogue with spaces and exhibits never fails to delight its Berlin audience. The other nocturnal chamber concerts this season will take place on 23 February 2018 at the Staatsbibliothek Unter den Linden and on 15 June 2018 at the Sammlung Scharf-Gerstenberg.
