The new SPK magazine will be published on 7 July and asks about home: a magazine about everything that belongs to it
Press release from 07/01/2016
Why the Berlin collections can provide answers to today's questions - Plus: Udo Kittelmann searches for home in his collections, Eugen Blume deciphers Beuys and Philipp Demandt visits the Zoo of Art once again
What is home? A topic that is as hotly debated as Brexit or the outcome of the European Football Championship. With its new issue, which will be published on 7 July, SPK magazine is getting involved in the debate about the future viability of society. What should this Germany be like? More world or more isolation? Do Muslims belong to Germany, but Islam does not? How do we want to live in Europe? Answers to these questions can also be found in museums, libraries and archives, where you can learn how much cultures have always benefited from mutual contact. In her report from Spandau, Kristina Heizmann shows what stability art can give to a fleeting life. You can also read that the role of museums is changing dramatically. At the Pergamon Museum, museum directors Nanette J. Snoep and Stefan Weber meet with Islamic scholar Bülent Uçar and Sascha Braun from the police union to find out whether the cultural diversity of Islam is not also a means of defence against terrorism.
Plus: Udo Kittelmann curates an exhibition just for this issue, Jürgen Kloosterhuis and Daniel Schreiber meet at the Bornstedt cemetery, Stefan Müchler visits a Hmong family in the Swabian Alb, Eugen Blume deciphers a masterpiece by Joseph Beuys and Philipp Demandt, who will unfortunately soon be leaving the Alte Nationalgalerie, once again visits the Zoo der Kunst.
The SPK magazine is published twice a year. It is edited by Gesine Bahr-Reisinger, Birgit Jöbstl, Kristina Heizmann (responsible) and Ingolf Kern from the Media and Communication Department. The design is the responsibility of StudioKrimm in Berlin. The current magazine was photographed by Ina Niehoff.
