Ticket sales start before Christmas for the 2016 Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition in piano, trombone and string quartet
Press release from 12/17/2015
In mid-January 2016, the best hundred young talents will compete for the coveted awards and prize money totalling over 50,000 euros as part of the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition. Günter Pichler, Tabea Zimmermann, Ewa Kupiec, Jiggs Whigham and Harald Eggebrecht are also members of the excellent jury of this oldest classical music competition in 2016. The piano, trombone and string quartet competitions will take place at the Berlin University of the Arts from 13 to 15 January 2016 and are free to the public.
The prizewinners will be announced and honoured in three subsequent concerts from 15 to 17 January 2016. The three commissioned works - by Aziza Sadikova for piano, Joachim F. W. Schneider for trombone and Sinem Altan for string quartet - will be premiered. Tickets are available from 22 December 2015. The final concert will be streamed live online by the UdK Berlin's Tonmeister programme and will be available in the media library afterwards.
In addition to the prize money, follow-up funding will be awarded, including the opportunity to give further concerts and produce a CD. This is why the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition, which is jointly organised by the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, the Rectors' Conference of German Music Universities and the Berlin University of the Arts, is considered to be particularly sustainable.
Detailed information on the competition, the concerts, the jury, all participants, the prizes and more can be found on the competition website.
