And in the evening in the Mies-Bau: 'Notturno' in the Neue Nationalgalerie on 7 November. Works by Gabrielli, Dorfman and Brahms in dialogue with art
Press release from 10/29/2014
On 7 November 2014, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation will open the fifth season of their joint chamber concert series "Notturno" at the Neue Nationalgalerie. Mies van der Rohe's masterpiece, which has been home to modern art in the capital since 1968, will close its doors for several years at the end of 2014 due to renovation work. Before then, the nightly chamber concert will once again offer a unique opportunity to experience space and music in dialogue. Before the concert begins, Dr Dieter Scholz, curator of the Nationalgalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, will give an introduction to the current exhibitions, which can then be explored.
At the centre of the concert are the "Five Pictures after Marc Chagall" (1987), for which the composer Joseph Dorfman was inspired by the artist's paintings. These are flanked by a Ricercar for solo violoncello by Domenico Gabrielli and Johannes Brahms' cantabile clarinet trio. On this evening, the clarinettist Richard Obermayer and the cellist Sara Minemoto will be joined by the pianist Gajane Saakjana.
The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin have been breaking new ground in the interdisciplinary exchange between Berlin's cultural institutions with the "Notturno" chamber concert series since 2010. The unique combination of high-quality chamber music and guided tours of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin museums at night is extremely popular and the concerts are regularly sold out. Over the course of the season, the musicians of the DSO will also be performing at the Neues Museum (16 January 2015) and the Museum of European Cultures (24 April 2015).
