No dissent between Parzinger and Grütters
Press release from 05/12/2014
On misleading reports about an alleged disagreement between Hermann Parzinger and Monika Grütters
The President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, Hermann Parzinger, emphasises that "there is no disagreement between the Minister of State and myself on the question of a necessary extension to the Neue Nationalgalerie. It is true that there are considerations for both locations under discussion, which have different effects on the time and financial realisation of the new building. Based on the information available so far, I believe that the Sigismundstrasse site is currently more favourable, as it appears to be possible to realise the project more quickly and cost-effectively, so that we do not have to keep modernist treasures in storage for longer than necessary. The hurdles appear to be higher for the Potsdamer Strasse site. These include split ownership and the lack of a development plan." However, Parzinger also emphasises: "I am open to the Potsdamer Straße site if the existing hurdles can be removed quickly."
Parzinger and Grütters also agree on the ideal future of the Gemäldegalerie. Both are of the opinion that the Museum Island will only be complete when painting is also anchored there.
