KLAVIERFIEBER International Piano Art Festival from 20 - 26 June 2011 at the Kulturforum Berlin
Press release from 05/09/2011
What do the bust of Nefertiti, the Market Gate of Miletus and Caspar David Friedrich's painting "The Lone Tree" have in common? Not only are they all famous crowd-pullers at the National Museums in Berlin, they are also at the centre of a new international piano art festival that Young Euro Classic is organising in cooperation with the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in June 2011. The idea behind KLAVIERFIEBER is as simple as it is fascinating: 6 composers create 6 commissioned works for piano inspired by 6 works of art. 6 young pianists will première the pieces within 6 days. This programme will be complemented by 6 matinees or tea-time concerts, in which masterpieces from the entire spectrum of classical piano music will be performed.
The festival opening on the eve of the concert series will be performed by the celebrated pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja. The twelve young pianists and composers, all winners of major competitions in their field, come from Denmark, Germany, France, Romania, Russia, the USA, Canada, Japan and China. All venues are located at the Berlin Kulturforum: the Chamber Music Hall of the Philharmonie, the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, the Gemäldegalerie, the Neue Nationalgalerie, the Musikinstrumenten-Museum and St Matthew's Church. The patron of the festival is Hermann Parzinger, President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, which owns five of the six selected works of art.
At selected events, the ticket entitles the holder to visit the museum or take part in a special guided tour one hour before the concert begins. With moderate prices - a standard €6 during the day and €15 for the evening concerts - and an unusual concept, KLAVIERFIEBER aims to inspire new audiences for piano music alongside the regular audience of Young Euro Classic. The festival is funded by the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin and supported by the Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband. The Berlin agency MetaDesign is supporting KLAVIERFIEBER with the design of the visual appearance and communication measures.
