Marion Ackermann congratulates MOWAA on its opening

News from 11/08/2025

On 11 November 2025, the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) is opening its Campus in Benin City, Nigeria, to the public.

Marion Ackermann, president of SPK, states:

“I am excited that the long-planned Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) is opening its Campus in Benin City and wish the colleagues all the best for the opening week and the time after, and hope I will be able to visit it in the near future. SPK has already established close cooperation with Nigerian partners through NCMM in the context of the restitution of Benin Bronzes, and we are open to widen the existing collaborations to a broader scope.”

Collaboration is central to the SPK and, in particular, to the Ethnologisches Museum. Within the framework of the project “Collaborative Museum” (CoMuse), the Ethnologisches Museum of SPK maintains ongoing partnerships with Nigerian and international researchers and artists. These collaborations are reflected in joint research and exhibition projects, fellowships, and public programs that explore shared histories and contemporary perspectives related to the “Benin Bronzes.”
