New Website for the New Museum Building at the Kulturforum

Over the next few years, a new museum building for twentieth-century art will rise at the Kulturforum. The new website will follow the design and construction process up until the opening.
The new website for the new museum building at the Kulturforum went online in August 2016. It furnishes information about the content of the future museum and the design competition for the new building. It also introduces people to the Kulturforum as a center of culture and science. The website will report on the progress of design and construction work up to the museum’s opening day.
The new museum at the Kulturforum will provide ideal conditions for displaying works of art. Not only that, it will also be a place where people like to meet. Within the Kulturforum, it can develop into a center where many different historical facets of European art, ideas, and culture converge and cross-connections become visible. An open ideas competition for the new museum building and its urban setting was held in the autumn and winter of 2015. This attracted entries from around 460 teams of architects and landscape architects. The ten prize-winners also qualified to take part in the design competition, which is currently taking place. In addition to the winners of the ideas competition, thirteen architectural practices have been invited to submit entries in the design competition. A further nineteen teams of architects and landscape architects have qualified to enter the design competition in a worldwide competitive selection process. The line-up of entrants in the final round of competition was finalized in June 2016. The jury will meet to evaluate the entries at the end of October.

Notwithstanding that the website’s title is “Nationalgalerie20” and the domain’s name is www.nationalgalerie20.de, a final decision has not been made about the building’s official name.
