The SPK in EM fever: football summer in Dahlem, at the Kulturforum and in the Hamburger Bahnhof
Press release from 06/28/2024
If you don't know how to bridge the time between the round of 16 and the quarter-finals without football, go to the Football Culture Summer, including at the SPK. On 4 July, it's all about fashion in football: Philipp Köster from 11 Freunde explains what Franz Beckenbauer has to do with the development of an international leisure classic at the Kunstgewerbemuseum. The museum is presenting an Adidas tracksuit "Model Franz Beckenbauer" from 1967 to the Berlin public for the first time.
There will be even more football - again on a non-match day - right outside the Kunstgewerbemuseum at the Kulturforum. On Sunday, 7 July, there will be a whole day dedicated to football on the Piazzetta, in the museums and in St Matthew's Church: Among other things, with a collector's booklet for the Cultural Forum's Top 11, table football or artistic football in the tree nursery on Matthäikirchplatz. The "Pasión Fútbol" showcase exhibition at the Ibero-American Institute will be showing library collections from the fields of graphic novels, comics/cartoons and popular novels dedicated to the topic of football until 15 July.
For the semi-final, it's off to Dahlem: the festival "cultivated football culture at FC Dahlem" on 10 July combines sporting enthusiasm with cultural experiences. A wide range of activities, insights and highlights for football fans of all ages go beyond the game itself and focus on the cultural significance of football. At 9 pm, the semi-final will be broadcast on a large screen at the Dahlem Research Campus as a public screening.
The artist Marianna Simnett will address the social impact of football in her film installation "WINNER", which will be presented at Hamburger Bahnhof until 3 November. The new production for the Hamburger Bahnhof takes up the dramaturgy of the game of football and focuses on constructed power hierarchies, mass psychology and permanent pressure to perform. The film stages the most passionate moments of football through the element of dance: soaring heights and triumph, brutality and savagery, suffering and defeat. Also: BerlinBeatz every Thursday evening from 4 July!
Participation in all events in Dahlem and at the Kulturforum is free of charge.
