From 15 January 2024: Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation adjusts admission prices for museums

Press release from 12/13/2023

SPK President Parzinger: We have to react to the increased costs - museum visits should nevertheless remain affordable in international comparison - free admission for visitors aged 18 and under - Museum Sunday to remain

The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation will make moderate adjustments to admission prices at the National Museums in Berlin and the Museum of Musical Instruments from 15 January 2024.

SPK President Hermann Parzinger said: "Our museums have been able to return to pre-corona levels and have attracted almost four million visitors from all over the world so far this year. We are naturally very pleased about this. Nevertheless, we will have to react to the increased costs in the coming year. Like many cultural institutions, we also have to deal with a very tight budget situation, which means that we have to increase income and reduce expenditure. It was important to us that, despite the increase, museum visits in Berlin remain affordable in an international comparison."

The price of a single ticket to the Altes Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Bode Museum, the Gemäldegalerie and the Museum für Fotografie will rise from ten to 12 euros. Admission to the Hamburger Bahnhof - Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, the Neue Nationalgalerie, the Neues Museum and the Pergamonmuseum. The Panorama will increase from 12 to 14 euros.

A visit to the Museum of Decorative Arts, the Museum of European Cultures, the Museum of Musical Instruments of the State Institute for Music Research and the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection will now cost ten euros instead of six or eight. For the Art Library, the Museum of Prints and Drawings and Köpenick Palace, admission will be eight euros instead of six.

Free admission is still available for the Friedrichswerder Church and the collections of the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art in the Humboldt Forum.

There will also be changes to combined tickets and season tickets: the Museum Island ticket will cost 24 euros instead of 19 euros. The ticket for the Kulturforum will rise from 18 to 20 euros.

The annual tickets are available as follows: Basic annual ticket (all permanent exhibitions during fixed visiting hours) 25 euros, Classic annual ticket (all permanent exhibitions during all opening hours) 59 instead of 50 euros, Classic Plus annual ticket (all permanent and special exhibitions) 118 instead of 100 euros. The discounted Classic Annual Pass is still available for 25 euros, and the discounted Classic Plus Annual Pass is still available for 50 euros.

The price for the three-day museum pass was already increased from 29 to 32 euros on 1 July 2023.

Admission remains free for visitors up to the age of 18 and those entitled to transfer benefits, while reduced-price tickets are still half-price. The Staatliche Museen zu Berlin also take part in the admission-free "Museum Sunday" on the first Sunday of every month.
