Budget Committee approves 9.9 million euros - Roth and Parzinger welcome decision
Yesterday, the Bundestag's Budget Committee released 9.9 million euros to make the Museum of the 20th Century, which is currently being built at the Kulturforum, more sustainable. The SPK is now intensively involved in sustainability issues and has committed itself to anchoring sustainability in its actions in ecological, social and economic terms. In order to achieve the sustainability goals, it is also examining how these can be implemented in the best possible way in new and ongoing construction projects.
Measures are also being identified at the Museum of the 20th Century to improve the sustainability of the building, particularly in terms of its energy efficiency and social sustainability, and which can still be implemented at this advanced stage of the project. These include the use of photovoltaics on the roof of the building.
Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth explains: "The Museum of the 20th Century will set new standards in terms of energy efficiency and ecological sustainability compared to the previous plans. Thanks to the support of the Budget Committee, the necessary funds are now available. Behind this important signal is our shared conviction that cultural institutions funded by the federal government in particular must be pioneers in terms of sustainability and ecological balance. This applies all the more to such a prominent new museum building in our capital city."
Hermann Parzinger, President of the SPK, says: "I am very grateful to the members of parliament for making this adaptation of the construction project possible and for releasing the necessary funds for it. Many of the measures to improve energy efficiency and ecological and social sustainability, for which we want to use the 9.9 million euros, are of central importance, because the Museum of the 20th Century is to become a flagship project in this respect too."
Klaus Biesenbach, Director of the Neue Nationalgalerie, adds: "The Museum of the 20th Century at the Kulturforum is to become an inclusive place for everyone. We want to create an open place for encounters, exchange and inspiration. A space in which we can experience and learn together with and through all art forms of the 20th century: photography, architecture, design, film, painting, sculpture, performance and media, but also social and ecological practice."
