News from 09/13/2021

It is with deep sorrow that the SPK announces the death of its former Vice President at the age of 89.

Peter Hofmann, former Vice President of the SPK, died in Berlin at the end of August. He was 89 years old. Hofmann worked for the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) for almost three decades. From 1968 onward, he served as the first permanent representative of the President, and in 1990 he was appointed Vice President.

In his letter of condolence to the family, SPK President Hermann Parzinger praises Peter Hofmann for his influential role in shaping the Foundation: "The very special challenges of Germany's reunification, and with them the organizational merger and staffing of the foundation's institutions in the East and West, arose during his time in office. The results of this exceptional development work bore his personal, far-sighted hallmark. He succeeded in this task not least due to his comprehensive knowledge, his great experience, and his unreserved dedication to this outstanding cultural institution. Moreover, he carried it out with great personal commitment and with empathy for the employees who had to be brought together after reunification, setting the foundation as a whole, its staff and its collections on a course that would take it successfully into the future."
