New COVID-19 protective measures: Museums close from 2 November

Press release from 10/30/2020

Parzinger on the corona crisis: Museums will close to the public from Monday (2 November) until the end of the month - archives and libraries will remain open under certain conditions

The President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, Hermann Parzinger, explains the corona crisis:

"The number of infections with the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) is also rising exponentially in Berlin. The Federal Chancellor has agreed with the Minister Presidents of the federal states that "institutions and facilities that are associated with leisure activities" will be closed. The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation is following this decision. Together with the Directorate General of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung, I have therefore decided today that from Monday (2 November 2020) until the end of the month, we will close all museum buildings of the Staatliche Museen on Museum Island, at the Kulturforum and at the Charlottenburg and Dahlem sites to the public. The Museum of Musical Instruments will also be closed.

The Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut and the Geheime Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz will remain open under the familiar strict hygiene conditions. This also applies to the Art Library, the Archaeological Library and the Central Archive of the National Museums in Berlin and the library of the State Institute for Music Research."
