More money, more jobs: SPK can also consistently tackle "refurbishment backlog"
Press release from 11/18/2019
The Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR) is granted 20 new posts for building maintenance on the Foundation's buildings - SPK's building maintenance budget increases to 10.34 million euros
The Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR) has been granted 20 new posts for 2020 to carry out urgently needed refurbishment work on buildings belonging to the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation. The Federal Audit Office recently complained about a "refurbishment backlog" and called for more funding and staff to maintain existing buildings.
SPK President Hermann Parzinger thanks BBR President Petra Wesseler, but also the responsible State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community, Anne Katrin Bohle, for their commitment: "Shortly after the decision on the National Gallery's Museum of the 20th Century, the federal government is now also enabling the SPK to do more for the existing buildings. This is an important signal from the federal government: we will not only be able to realise new cultural buildings, but also take better care of the preservation of existing ones.
At the same time, I would like to thank Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters and the State of Berlin for also significantly increasing the budget for the Foundation's building maintenance, which has now grown to 10.34 million euros. We will now begin immediately with measures to implement the maintenance plan."
