Anniversary concert 10 years of "Notturno" at the Neues Museum on 11 September Chief conductor Robin Ticciati, violinist Christian Tetzlaff and actor Mark Waschke

On 11 September, the "Notturno" series will start its new season with a special edition to mark its tenth anniversary. The anniversary concert will take place at the Neues Museum on Museum Island. DSO Principal Conductor Robin Ticciati will present a varied programme for chamber orchestra with works by Ondrej Adámek, Ludwig van Beethoven, Brett Dean and Antonín Dvořák, with the prominent participation of violinist Christian Tetzlaff and actor Mark Waschke.

The popular chamber concert series 'Notturno' celebrates its tenth anniversary on 11 September with a special concert in the impressive staircase hall of the Neues Museum, which also celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2019. It was reopened on 16 October 2009 with a permanent exhibition of outstanding exhibits from Egypt and prehistoric and early cultures from the Middle East to the Atlantic. At the upcoming anniversary concert, Robin Ticciati will present works for chamber orchestra that outline the focal points of the DSO's new season. These include Antonín Dvořák, in whose Romance for Violin and Orchestra Christian Tetzlaff, who has been closely associated with the DSO for many years, takes on the solo part. Contemporary composers are also on the programme with 'Sinuous Voices' by Czech composer Ondrej Adámek and Australian composer Brett Dean. Brett Dean will perform a musical exploration of Beethoven's 'Heiligenstadt Testament'. Actor Mark Waschke will read from the harrowing work as well as texts by Durs Grünbein and Milan Kundera, before Beethoven finally has his say with the Great Fugue in an arrangement for string orchestra by Robin Ticciati.

Even before the official start of the new season, another special edition of the series will take place on 5 September with "Notturno Extra". As part of the anniversary programme "100 years of bauhaus", a DSO ensemble, together with soprano Sarah Aristidou and narrator Dominique Horwitz , invites you to a nocturnal chamber concert in the Curt Sachs Hall of the Musical Instrument Museum, with two prominent works of classical modernism: Stravinsky's "L'histoire du soldat" and Schönberg's "Pierrot lunaire". And the tenth anniversary of the Neues Museum itself will also be celebrated - with a look back into its even more distant history: from 12 October to November 2019, visitors can use VR glasses to experience the historical spatial impression of the staircase hall with Wilhelm von Kaulbach's large-format murals, which were destroyed during the war, in a virtual reconstruction.
