SPK involved in two new Clusters of Excellence - Parzinger: Decision confirms SPK's success as a network of important scientific institutions
Press release from 09/28/2018
Yesterday, the German Research Foundation (DFG) announced its decision on which Clusters of Excellence will be funded in the years 2019 to 2025. The SPK is involved in 2 of the 57 selected clusters.
Hermann Parzinger, President of the SPK, was delighted with the decision: "The participation in two new Clusters of Excellence once again demonstrates the importance of the SPK as a network of major scientific institutions. The decision emphasises the important contributions that collection-based research can make. The SPK is also very well networked internationally with other academic institutions, for example we recently signed an agreement on closer cooperation with the museums, libraries and archives of the University of Oxford."
The Ibero-American Institute of the SPK is involved in the cluster "Temporal Communities. Doing Literature in a Global Perspective / Temporal Communities. Literature as Practice in a Global Perspective". The Kunstgewerbemuseum is involved in "Matters of Activity. Image Space Material", the follow-up cluster to "Image - Knowledge - Design" applied for by the Humboldt University.
To date, the SPK has been involved in the clusters of excellence "Topoi" (since 2006) and "Image - Knowledge - Design" (since 2012).
