Parzinger: Museum of European Cultures will be represented with a showcase in the Humboldt Forum
Press release from 07/18/2016
The Museum of European Cultures of the National Museums in Berlin will be represented with a showcase in the future Humboldt Forum. The President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, Hermann Parzinger, welcomed the plans of the State of Berlin to seek co-operation with the successful Dahlem museum.
Parzinger: "It is good that the Museum of European Cultures has played a key role in the creation of the concept presented today for the Berlin spaces in the Humboldt Forum. The Stadtmuseum Berlin and the Museum of European Cultures have a great deal in common, not only because of their socially orientated and cultural-historical approaches, but also because of the character of their collections, and they complement each other perfectly in terms of content: while the Stadtmuseum focuses on urban living environments and the culturally diverse society in Berlin, the Museum of European Cultures is dedicated to these themes in cooperation with partner museums at national and European level."
The Museum of European Cultures has agreed on various forms of co-operation with the Stiftung Stadtmuseum in order to integrate the conceptually relevant European cultures and corresponding objects into the Humboldt Forum. The museum is also contributing its methodological and content-related expertise to the project. In doing so, it also wants to draw attention to its actual location, its headquarters in Berlin-Dahlem, where it will be reorganised from 2017 following the departure of the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art of the National Museums in Berlin.
"I very much welcome the fact that the collegial cooperation with the Stiftung Stadtmuseum has made it possible to contextualise social and everyday cultural topics in a European way - especially with regard to a pluralistic society. Since its foundation in 1999, the Museum of European Cultures has repeatedly explored the theme of 'Europe in Berlin' in exhibitions and events and has also orientated parts of its collection policy accordingly. I am therefore all the more pleased that this expertise accumulated over the years and the wealth of experience gained in this way will be applied in the Humboldt Forum," says Elisabeth Tietmeyer, Director of the Museum of European Cultures.
