Kammermusikalisches Finale: ›Notturno‹-Konzert am 3. Juni im Alten Museum
Press release from 05/25/2016
The DSO's Adamello Quartet plays works by Dutilleux and Mozart
The last 'Notturno' chamber concert of this season will take place on 3 June in the Rotunda of the Altes Museum on Museum Island. The Adamello Quartet of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin will perform Henri Dutilleux's string quartet 'Ainsi la nuit' alongside Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Quartet in G major KV 387. Before the concert, Prof Dr Andreas Scholl, Director of the Collection of Classical Antiquities, will give a guided tour of the permanent exhibition on the art and culture of the Greeks, Etruscans and Romans.
The 'Notturno' series, which has been running since 2010, will be continued in the coming season. The DSO and SPK are also collaborating on two special concerts: a 'Notturno Extra' on Spain will take place on 27 August as part of the Long Night of Museums, and one on 26 September to mark the opening of the Busoni exhibition.
Henri Dutilleux, who would have been 100 years old this year, is considered one of France's most important contemporary composers. With 'Ainsi la nuit', he attempted to depict the dreamlike atmosphere of the night in sound - with musical impressions and nocturnes that are linked by interludes and memories in the form of a free chain of associations to create a poignant post-impressionist night piece. Two hundred years before Dutilleux, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart also enriched the supreme discipline of chamber music with a masterpiece: his String Quartet K. 387 combines exciting dynamics and concentrated expressivity with impressive songfulness.
The chamber concerts in the 'Notturno' series, which the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin organises in collaboration with the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, have been extremely popular from the very beginning. The fact that the events are regularly sold out proves the coherence of the concept: art and music, image and sound together enable an extraordinary approach to the works. The series will continue in the coming season with three concerts: at the Museum of the Ancient Near East on Museum Island (18 November 2016), at the Museum of Photography at the Zoological Garden (10 February 2017) and open air in the garden of Museum Berggruen (16 June 2017).
