Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and National Museums in Berlin with welcome programme for refugees
Press release from 10/01/2015
Kuratorium Preussischer Kulturbesitz supports guided tour and workshop programme for children, families and adults.
The National Museums in Berlin of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation invite refugees in Berlin to familiarise themselves with selected museums and offer free guided tours and workshops for children, families and adults. The offers are to be communicated specifically to charities and aid organisations as well as volunteer initiatives. The campaign is supported by the Prussian Cultural Heritage Board of Trustees, which includes well-known German companies. "We would like to give refugee families and the many voluntary helpers the gift of a visit to the museum," says Thorsten Strauß, Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
According to the President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, Hermann Parzinger, the museums want to become even more involved in the future: "Our society is characterised by immigration, internationality and plurality. This is also reflected in our collections. We want those who come to us to familiarise themselves with our cultural institutions and share in our common cultural heritage." First of all, however, it is important to show the refugees some of the highlights and favourite pieces in the museums.
As the Director General of the National Museums in Berlin, Michael Eissenhauer, said, there are currently six offers for children and families as well as for adults in different museums: "With this offer, the National Museums in Berlin would like to welcome people to Berlin. We want to offer children and families in particular an enjoyable experience in our museums. They can visit the Hamburger Bahnhof, the Museum Berggruen, the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Altes Museum, the Neues Museum, the Kunstgewerbemuseum and the Pergamonmuseum."
Thanks to the support of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Board of Trustees, it is possible to offer this programme free of charge and also to cover the costs of travel by public transport. Admission to the museums is free for the participants, including the accompanying helpers.
