Deutschlandfunk in the Humboldt Box

Press release from 09/23/2015

Museum makers, collection managers, ethnologists, art historians and other protagonists of the Humboldt Forum tell their stories

Deutschlandfunk has set up an "audio bar" on the second floor of the Humboldt Box, where visitors will be able to listen to the individual episodes of the 16-part radio series "The Humboldt Forum and its history(ies)", which the station broadcast in the summer.

Each of the eight-minute conversations deals with the reconstruction of the Berlin Palace, but also with questions about the future exhibition spaces of the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art: How can exhibits from four millennia and four continents be made accessible in a contemporary way? What story or stories do they tell? How do ethnological collections deal with their own colonial heritage? The conversations in the series feature the heads of collections, ethnologists and other protagonists of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation as well as museum organisers, art historians and other participants.

The Hörbar has been around since 2010 and was originally developed for a cooperation with the research ship "MS Wissenschaft" to make Deutschlandfunk's contributions and thematic focuses from the fields of research and science audible. Various contributions or pieces of music can be selected and listened to via touchscreen. For the co-operation with the Humboldt-Box, the individual episodes of the discussion series were recorded and can be supplemented remotely via UMTS.
