Humboldt Lab Cabs - A journey into knowledge

Press release from 08/26/2015

Climb into a Chinese rickshaw and find out more about the new Berlin Palace: Humboldt Lab Dahlem launches the "Humboldt Lab Cabs" at the Long Night of Museums on 29 August 2015

With the new Humboldt Lab Cabs, the Humboldt Lab Dahlem will familiarise citizens - but of course also visitors to the city - with the visions for the future Humboldt Forum in the new Berlin Palace in an inspiring way. At the same time, passengers will also learn how the Humboldt Lab Dahlem has rehearsed for the exhibitions in the palace over the past four years.

In future, three original Chinese rickshaws, the Humboldt Lab Cabs, will take visitors on a journey of knowledge through Berlin. The rickshaws will travel between Potsdamer Platz and the Humboldt Forum construction site, stopping at stations that are thematically related to the Humboldt Forum. In this way, a network of information about the project and its namesake is created like an intellectual map.

Hermann Parzinger, President of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation: "Since the topping-out ceremony in June, interest in the Humboldt Forum has been growing steadily. It is not only the largest cultural construction site in Europe, it is also the most exciting. With the Humboldt Lab Cabs, everyone can now experience what holds the Humboldt Forum together at its core. It's a wonderful idea that speaks in favour of the Humboldt Lab Dahlem, which has repeatedly driven this major project forward in recent years with unusual approaches and perspectives."

The tours can be booked with the rickshaw pilots or directly in the city centre.
Rickshaw driver Thomas Tekath also accepts enquiries by
email ator by phone on 0152-338 50 239.

The Humboldt Lab Cabs can be recognised in the city by their bright yellow branding and the spiral in the front wheel.

The ride for up to two people costs 42 euros each, payable directly to the driver. The tours are offered in German and English.

Radioeins vom RBB is giving away three free rides every week until mid-October. Radioeins vom RBB is the exclusive media partner of the Humboldt Lab Cabs.

Agnes Wegner, Head of the Humboldt Lab Dahlem office: "It's definitely worth getting in and travelling - for Berliners too. We connect the city with the museum collections and history. A change of perspective - exactly what we have been rehearsing every day for the past four years: Exploring new approaches to old topics by changing perspectives! At the end of the Humboldt Lab Dahlem, it's nice to transfer this to the urban space."

And Thomas Tekath adds on behalf of the Humboldt Lab Cab pilots: "We are passionate city guides and rickshaw drivers. We have been telling the stories of the city with our tours for many years. With the Humboldt Lab Cab concept, we now have the opportunity to take our passengers on a unique journey of discovery and knowledge."
