Cultural contacts: "Notturno" chamber concert at the Museum of European Cultures
Press release from 04/17/2015
The Anamyktos Quartet will perform the last "Notturno" chamber concert of the current season on 24 April at the Museum of European Cultures of the National Museums in Dahlem. With a programme of works by Russian composers, the musicians of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin will enter into a dialogue with the exhibits from the worlds of life in Europe. Before the concert begins, the director of the museum, Prof. Dr Elisabeth Tietmeyer, will give an introduction to the current exhibitions, which can then be explored.
With the selected works, the string quartet of DSO members Mika Bamba, Stephan Obermann, Leo Klepper and Mathias Donderer explores questions of identity, individuality and belonging, as they are also posed in the permanent exhibition "Cultural Contacts. Living in Europe" at the Museum of European Cultures. In addition to string quartets by Sergei Taneyev and Sergei Prokofiev, they will perform the "Ten Variations on a Russian Folk Song" from 1898 - a joint work by the Belyayev circle of composers such as Glazunov, Rimsky-Korsakov and Scriabin, who gathered around the publisher, patron and music lover of the same name from 1885 onwards.
With the chamber concert series "Notturno", the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin have been breaking new ground in the interdisciplinary exchange between Berlin's cultural institutions for five years now. The unique combination of high-quality chamber music and late-night guided tours of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (National Museums in Berlin) is extremely popular, and the concerts have become a crowd-puller and are regularly sold out. In the coming season, the DSO ensembles will perform at the Kunstgewerbemuseum am Kulturforum (27 November 2015), the Museum Berggruen in Charlottenburg (19 February 2015) and the Altes Museum on Museum Island (3 June 2016).
