Night concert on the Museum Island: 'Notturno' at the Neues Museum on 16 January Works by C. Ph. E. Bach, Couperin, Vivaldi and Zelenka in dialogue with art
Press release from 01/09/2015
For the second 'Notturno' chamber concert of the season, an eight-piece ensemble from the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin will embark on an interdisciplinary search for clues in the Neues Museum on 16 January. Since its reopening in 2009, the building on Museum Island has housed important exhibits from prehistory and early history, such as the world-famous bust of Nefertiti. Before the concert begins, Prof Dr Friederike Seyfried, Director of the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, will give an introduction to the current exhibitions, which can then be explored.
Kornelia Brandkamp (flute), Thomas Hecker and Isabel Maertens (oboes), Douglas Bull (bassoon), Ksenija Zečević (violin), Mischa Meyer (violoncello), Rolf Jansen (double bass) and Arno Schneider (harpsichord) enter into a dialogue with exhibits from prehistory and early history, the Egyptian and antiquities collections with baroque sounds. The programme includes works by Antonio Vivaldi, Bach's son Carl Philipp Emanuel, the Bohemian Jan Dismas Zelenka and François Couperin.
The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin have been breaking new ground in interdisciplinary exchange between Berlin's cultural institutions with the 'Notturno' chamber concert series since 2010. The unique combination of high-quality chamber music and guided tours of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin museums at night is extremely popular and the concerts are regularly sold out. In the current season, the DSO is still a guest at the Museum of European Cultures (24 April 2015).
